i would suppose that CRPs are not appropriate for the comparison of the both data sets. but it is also a question what you are interested on. is the focus on the variation of the time scales or on the synchronisation of the data? maybe joint recurrence plots are more suitable.

best regards

it depends what or how much you are interested on. if you are interested to derive dynamical invariants you will need longer data series. however, if you are working with measures of complexity, as the RQA measures are, and your time series covers e.g. transitions, data lengths of 200 - 1000 could b...

Order pattern recurrence plots

Order patterns recurrence plots are now included in the commandline version and in the plugin of the Matlab toolbox (rather fast).

As far as I know, Michael Casey has used a "similarity plot" (ixegram) in order to classify and compare songs. However, instead of using neighbourhoods of states (as in recurrence plots), he used other features of the data like locally estimated histograms (see http://www.recurrence-plot.t...

Thank you very much. But I would like to know whether there are numerical differences in the results between both programmes.

Reply to lottery prediction

It does not make any difference to consider either the numbers or the balls itself. Why the drawn numbers would be independent? Because the drawn balls are independent. Which ball will be drawn is determined really by chance. A lottery machine is not such a simple system what you supposed. Moreover,...

It would be nice to organise the next meeting in Sienna. Do you have any news, Angelo? However, I don't think that we have to push it at the moment, because we should organise it for 2007. Or is there an urgent reason to do it this year?

Lottery prediction

In Lottery, each chosen number will be independed from each other. Therfore, I have my doubts to have any success to predict lottery numbers. How you would use a recurrence analysis for that problem? I'm really curious to see your solution. Do you have any first findings?

Commandline Recurrence Plots

The bunch of free available software for computing RPs and their quantifications was extended by a commandline version, which is fast and can handle long data series. It includes the most recent developed RQA measures and can be used in batch processes. It can be found at http://www.agnld.uni-potsda...

Fast plugin for the CRP toolbox

SInce version 5 of the CRP toolbox for Matlab, a fast, pre-compiled plugin is available (based on the commandline recurrence plot programme written in C++). If installed, the CRP toolbox will automatically use this plugin. It provides a much faster computation of RPs and their quantification and ena...

Did anyone compare the results of the VRA software of Eugene Kononov and the RQA software of Chuck Webber? Are there differences?

New publications

To maintain the bibliography about recurrence plot related work is rather time consuming. Moreover, I don't have access to several journals and I cannot have the full overview over every work. Therefore, it would be nice if you could support me by submitting the bibliographical entry about articles ...

CRP toolbox and Webber's RQA software

The RQA measures derived from the CRP toolbox and Webber's software are different by using the default settings, because they use other approaches of normalisation of the data. The RQA software uses a specific normalisation of the computed distance matrix, whereas the CRP toolbox uses either no norm...

Next RP workshop

During the last workshop we decided to repeat such meetings regularly. At the moment we are still looking for a nice meeting place. Ideas were Chicago or somewhere in Italy.
